Senior research and multimedia officer: Zhiwei Zhu

Zhiwei Zhu is a research and multimedia officer at CEARC, Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ), with a long-standing role in scientific communication, web development and the mediation of environmental knowledge. His work combines multimedia production, visual communication and digital tools with research and educational projects, including several transdisciplinary collaborations linking science, arts and local knowledge.

Zhiwei was PREFER’s communication officer and webmaster during its first three years and has been involved in the day to day management of the project. His contribution went beyond communication: he was one of the producers of Inuuniddinni Ilaaralaaor (Part of Us), a documentary produced in Ittoqqortoormiit, Kalaallit Nunaat, in which the voices and experiences of community members were placed at the centre of the film. The documentary, produced within SeMPER-Arctic and PREFER, explored local understandings of narwhal hunting, environmental restrictions and epistemic injustice.

Through this work, Zhiwei has been involved in PREFER’s attempt to use visual and narrative forms not simply to communicate research, but as part of the research and its restitution.
