Senior scientist: associate professor Maite Yie Garzón

Maite Yie Garzón is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. An anthropologist and political anthropologist, her research focuses on peasant social movements, territorial struggles, state formation, public policies, and the production of historical memory and narratives in rural Colombia. Her work pays particular attention to how rural communities make themselves visible, organise collectively and produce their own forms of territorial and political life.

Within PREFER, Maite contributes to the Colombian research, bringing her long-standing experience of ethnographic work with peasant communities and of collaborative approaches to territory, memory and political action. Her perspective is particularly relevant to understanding how communities articulate what matters to them, and how values and forms of collective life are maintained or transformed under changing conditions.
